Marcos de Niza High School Lady Padres Soccer
General Information
Women's soccer at Marcos de Niza is a proud tradition that began in 1993. With the addition of the junior varsity program in 1997, Marcos de Niza athletics has increased opportunities for women to participate in this growing, thriving sport. As in all athletic programs at Marcos, the emphasis is providing a fun, enriching student athletic experience while maintaining high academic achievement. The Varsity Lady Padres Soccer team has achieved the distinction of being awarded the Team Scholar Athlete award for the last 2 consecutive years.
The style of soccer these women play is exciting and fun to watch, and improvement can be seen every year they compete. More importantly, these young women come away with a sense of pride in what they accomplish, and enhanced school spirit. Take the time to come watch them play....we know you'll enjoy the match and the Lady Padres will enjoy your support!
The Lady Padres completed the 1999/2000 Class 5A campaign with a tough loss to rival McClintock in the Region tournament. This is the third consecutive year that Marcos advanced to Regionals, and the second consecutive year of elimination from the State tournament. While the team underachieved based upon their potential, many good things came from the season including a commitment to build stronger teamwork. This year, the Central Region coaches recognized the talent on the team by bestowing 9 of the team's starters with post-season all-region awards!!! Next year presents great hope and optimism, and a better team spirit combined with true DESIRE to excel.
Parity has come to the Region and much of 5A soccer. Even perennial power Dobson lost to a 4A squad this year along with Region rival Mountain Pointe, which Marcos defeated for the first time in Lady Padre history! Mid-season injuries and absences prevented the team from truly shining as bright as it could, but the 2,000 campaign is around the corner and looking good! Gooooo Padres!!!
